Participle merupakan turunan dari kata kerja di dalam bahasa Inggris. Biasanya kata ini digunakan sebagai kata sifat atau untuk membentuk kalimat tenses. Contoh dari participle yang mungkin kamu gunakan sehari-hari tapi tak sadar adalah kata \u201cexcited\u201d dan \u201cexciting.\u201d Kedua kata ini berasal dari kata \u201cexcite\u201d yang berarti membuat semangat.<\/p>\n<p>Participle sendiri punya 2 jenis, Quipperian, yakni active participle (present participle) dan passive participle (past participle). Biar kamu lebih jelas, yuk simak penjabarannya di bawah ini.<\/p>\n<h2>A. Present Participle<\/h2>\n<p>Present participle sering digunakan dengan menggunakan verb -ing dan paling banyak digunakan dalam kalimat continuous tense (karena tambahan verb -ing-nya). Contohnya: running, walking, sitting, reading, typing, etc. Bila present participle diawali \u201cto be\u201d, kalimatnya menjadi bentuk continuous tense, contoh:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I <strong>am<\/strong> typ<strong>ing<\/strong> on the phone.<\/li>\n<li>She <strong>was<\/strong> dat<strong>ing<\/strong> the football captain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ciri lainnya yang wajib kamu perhatikan Quipperian, adalah present participle sering kali muncul setelah object dari verb of sense: hear, see, watch, feel, notice, smell, find, leave, etc yang berfungsi sebagai adjective atau adverb. Contoh:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I <strong>felt<\/strong> the floor shak<strong>ing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>I <strong>hear<\/strong> the wall crack<strong>ing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Terus nih, Quipperian kalau present participle muncul di awal kalimat, sesungguhnya kalimat tersebut punya banyak arti. Simak beberapa contoh di bawah ini, ya.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walking around the mall, I met my old friend.<br \/>\nDalam kata \u201cwalking\u201d di atas, terkandung makna \u201cwhile\u201d (sedang), kalimat tersebut bisa ditulis ulang menjadi:<br \/>\nWhile I was walking around the mall, I met my old friend.<\/li>\n<li>Having completed the study group, Vaya went home with her bike.<br \/>\nArtinya: After Vaya had completed the study group, she went home with her bike.<\/li>\n<li>Being pregnant, my mother had her dinner brought to the bedroom.<br \/>\nKata \u201cbeing\u201d di atas berarti because, since, as, for. Jika ditulis ulang menjadi:<br \/>\nBecause my mom was pregnant, she had her dinner brought to the bedroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kemudian yang patut kamu ingat lagi adalah, present participle bisa menggantikan adjective clause dalam relative pronoun. Artinya, pelaku dalam kalimat pertama sama dengan kalimat kedua. Contoh:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Here is the magazine which gives full information about new hair styles. (Here is the magazine giving full information about new hair styles)<\/li>\n<li>I saw Megan who is stealing. (I saw Megan stealing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>B. Past Participle<\/h2>\n<p>Past participle atau passive participle punya beberapa fungsi, nih, Quipperian. Misalnya:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Past participle adalah verb 3. Bila diawali dengan \u201cto be\u201d, kalimat akan menjadi passive sentence. Contoh:\n<ul>\n<li>I was phoned by my Mom.<\/li>\n<li>The baby was annoyed by the motorcycles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Digunakan untuk menggantikan anak kalimat pengganti kata sifat (relative clause) yang sifatnya pasif, maka jadi seperti ini:<br \/>\nThe car which was broken by Dad has not been repaired yet.<br \/>\n(<em>The car broken by Dad has not been repaired yet<\/em>).<\/li>\n<li>Menyatakan cause dan effect (sebab-akibat)<br \/>\nBecause the house is surrounded by trees, it has cool air.<br \/>\n(<em>Surrounded by the trees, the house has cool air<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Biar kamu makin yakin sudah paham betul dengan materi present participle dan past participle ini, cobain latihan soal dari Quipper Blog yang diambil dari Quipper Video di bawah ini, ya!<br \/>\n<strong>Contoh Soal No. 1<\/strong><br \/>\nRunning down the stairs, he slipped and broke his leg. The boy reads the magazine is my nephew.<br \/>\nJawaban: <strong>A<\/strong><br \/>\nSebab relative pronoun (who) dan to be dihapus agar menjadi present participle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contoh Soal No. 3<\/strong><br \/>\nThey promise to send me all presents which were bought by my friends yesterday. The simple form of the sentence is\u2026<br \/>\nA. They promise to send me all presents which bought by my friends yesterday.<br \/>\nB. They promise to send me all presents bought by my friends yesterday.<br \/>\nC. They promise to send me all presents to buy by my friends yesterday.<br \/>\nD.
