Sel volta adalah sebuah alat yang dapat mengubah cairan kimia menjadi energi listrik. Alat ini dikenal dengan istilah sel elektrokimia.<br \/>\nNah, sel volta terdiri dari 4 bagian yaitu: Voltmeter, Jembatan Garam, Anoda, dan Katoda.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Voltmeter: komponen yang berfungsi menentukan besarnya potensial pistrik atau tegangan listrik yang dihasilkan.<\/li>\n<li>Jembatan Garam (<em>Salt Bridge<\/em>): komponen yang berfungsi untuk menjaga kenetralan muatan listrik pada larutan. Jembatan garam terdiri dari senyawa Na<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub>.<\/li>\n<li>Anoda (Elektroda Negatif): tempat terjadinya reaksi oksidasi (penglepasan elektron). Logam yang dipakai pada anoda di gambar adalah Zn (seng).<\/li>\n<li>Katoda (Elektroda Positif) : tempat terjadinya reaksi reduksi (penangkapan elektron). Hal ini dapat disebut juga reaksi spontan atau reaksi redoks (Reduksi-Oksidasi). Syarat terjadinya reaksi spontan adalah Nilai Potensial Elektroda Standar (E<sup>0<\/sup>) pada Voltmeter harus bernilai positif. Apabila Nilai Potensial Elektroda Standar (E<sup>0<\/sup>)pada Voltmeter bernilai negatif maka tidak terjadi reaksi spontan.<br \/>\nPrinsip kerja dari sel volta adalah sebagai berikut:<br \/>\nKetika logam Zn dimasukkan ke dalam larutan yang mengandung ion Zn<sup>2+<\/sup>dan logam Cu dimasukkan ke dalam larutan Cu<sup>2+<\/sup>, atom-atom logam Zn akan teroksidasi melepaskan 2 elektron dan larut di dalam larutan tersebut, karena bersifat lebih reaktif dibanding dengan atom Cu.<br \/>\nElektron-elektron yang dibebaskan oleh logam Zn melewati kawat dan masuk ke arah logam Cu dan tereduksi ion Cu<sup>2+<\/sup>, sehingga jumlah ion Cu 2+ akan berkurang dalam larutan. Elektroda\/kawat mengalirkan arus listrik (elektron) masuk atau keluar dari suatu larutan, sehingga muncul suatu tegangan listrik yang dapat dilihat dari tampilan Voltmeter. Penasaran dengan detailnya? Yuk, simak di bawah ini!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A) Sel Volta Primer<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sel volta primer adalah komponen naterai atau sering disebut sel Lenchanche. Sel volta primer adalah baterai yang dayanya langsung habis apabila selesai dipakai artinya komponen baterai ini tidak dapat diisi ulang. Baterai ini dibagi menjadi beberapa jenis yaitu sel kering seng-sarbon, baterai merkuri dan baterai perak oksida.<br \/>\n<strong>a. Sel Kering Seng-Karbon<\/strong><br \/>\nSel kering seng-karbon terdiri dari suatu silinder zink berisi pasta dari campuran batu kawi (MnO<sub>2<\/sub>), Salmiak (NH<sub>4<\/sub>Cl), karbon (C), dan sedikit air. Bagian anoda dari baterai ini adalah logam seng (Zn), sedangkan bagian katoda dari baterai ini adalah grafit yang dicelupkan di tengah-tengah pasta. Baterai Perak Oksida<\/strong><br \/>\nBaterai ini mempunyai komponen yang sangat tipis. Anoda dari baterai ini adalah seng (Zn), sedangkan katoda dari baterai ini adalah perak oksida (Ag<sub>2<\/sub>0). Besar tegangan pada baterai ini adalah 1,5 V. &nbsp;Reaksi yang terjadi pada baterai ini adalah sebagai berikut:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-254801\" src=\"https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/sel-volta-6-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/sel-volta-6-1.png 429w, https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/sel-volta-6-1-300x79.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><br \/>\nBaterai ini biasa digunakan pada komponen jam, kamera, dan kalkulator elektronik dan biasanya harganya lebih mahal.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>B) Sel Volta Sekunder<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sel volta sekunder adalah komponen sel volta yang daya nya dapat diisi ulan. Contohnya aki timbal, baterai lithium, dan sel perang seng.<br \/>\n<strong>a. Aki Timbal<\/strong><br \/>\nAki timbal adalah baterai yang digunakan untuk kendaraan bermotor atau mobil. Komponen dari aki terdiri dari PbO<sub>2<\/sub>sebagai katoda dan Pb (timah hitam) sebagai anodanya. Komponen tersebut dicelupkan ke dalam larutan asam sulfat (H<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub>). Reaksi yang terjadi dalam aki adalah sebagai berikut:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-254791\" src=\"https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/sel-volta-7-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"122\"><br \/>\nPada pengisian daya dalam aki dilakukan dengan cara menghubungkan elektroda timbal ke kutub negatif sumber arus sehingga Pb<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub>yang terdapat pada elektroda timbal itu direduksi. Baterai Litium<\/strong><br \/>\nKomponen anoda dari baterai ini adalah litium, sedangkan katodanya adalah MnO<sub>2<\/sub>. &nbsp;Baterai ini dapat menghasilkan arus listrik yang lebih besar dan daya tahannya lebih lama.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-254771\" src=\"https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/sel-volta-9-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"41\"><br \/>\nBaterai litium merupakan sumber bahan energi untuk mobil listrik. Mobil listrik adalah kendaraan yang sumber tenaganya tidak menggunakan bensin namun menggunakan baterai litium yang dapat diisi ulang sehingga kendaraan ini akan ramah lingkungan dan lebih irit.<br \/>\n<strong>c. Sel Perak Seng<\/strong><br \/>\nKomponen anoda dari &nbsp;sel ini adalah Zn (seng) sedangkan katodanya adalah Ag (Perak). Katoda dan anoda dari komponen ini dihubungkan larutan elektrolit KOH. Komponen ini lebih ringan daripada aki timbal dan memiliki daya yang lebih besar, sehingga baterai ini digunakan pada kendaraan di arena balap seperti mobil Formula 1 agar kendaraan mempunyai kecepatan yang lebih besar.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>C) Sel Bahan Bakar<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sel ini menggunakan campuran bahan bakar sebagai sumber energinya. Sumber bahan bakarnya seperti campuran Hidrogen (H<sub>2<\/sub>) dengan Oksigen (O<sub>2<\/sub>) atau campuran gas alam dengan oksigen. Komponen katoda dari sel ini adalah gas oksigen dan anodanya adalah gas hidrogen.
