Ya, badan mobil memang berbahan dasar logam, tetapi ada suatu lapisan yang menyelimuti logam tersebut agar tidak mudah berkarat dan terlihat indah. Lapisan yang dimaksud adalah kromium. Artinya, pada proses elektrolisis terjadi perubahan energi listrik menjadi energi kimia (reaksi redoks). Terdapat tiga ciri utama suatu proses elektrolisis, yaitu sebagai berikut.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Adanya ion bebas dalam suatu larutan elektrolit. Ion bebas inilah yang nantinya akan menerima atau memberikan elektron yang dialirkan melalui larutan.<\/li>\n<li>Terdapat sumber arus DC dari luar, misalnya baterai.<\/li>\n<li>Memiliki dua elektroda, yaitu katoda dan anoda, dalam sel elektrolisis.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pada sel elektrolisis, katoda berfungsi sebagai tempat berlangsungnya reaksi reduksi dan sebagai kutub negatif, sedangkan anoda merupakan tempat berlangsungnya reaksi oksidasi dan sebagai kutub positif.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hukum Faraday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-260581\" src=\"https:\/\/quipperhome.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Yuk-Perdalam-Materi-Elektrolisis-dan-Cari-Tahu-Manfaatnya-buat-Kamu1-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><br \/>\nSiapa yang tidak kenal Michael Faraday? Sosok Faraday menjadi fenomenal di kalangan ilmuwan Fisika dan Kimia berkat penemuannya yang berkaitan dengan arus listrik. Ternyata, Faraday juga memegang peranan penting bagi terbentuknya elektrolisis.<br \/>\nPada abad ke-19, Faraday meneliti hubungan antara besarnya kuat arus yang mengalir di dalam sel dan hasil kimia yang berubah di elektroda saat berlangsung proses elektrolisis. Penelitian tersebut membuktikan bahwa elektron merupakan pereaksi pembatas dalam elektrolisis.<br \/>\nBerdasarkan hitungan matematis yang dilakukan Faraday, diperoleh bahwa 1 mol elektron mengandung muatan sebesar 96.500 C atau sama dengan 1 F.<br \/>\nPersamaan di atas, dikenal sebagai Hukum Faraday, di mana jumlah elektron yang terlibat dalam reaksi memengaruhi hasil elektrolisis di bagian katoda. Lantas, bagaimana sebenarnya reaksi yang terjadi di dalam katoda maupun anoda?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Katoda<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Saat larutan elektrolit dielektrolisis, kation akan mengalami reaksi reduksi di katoda. Reaksi yang terjadi bergantung pada wujud zat dan jenis kationnya. Jika kation yang direduksi selain dari golongan IA, IIA, Al, dan Mn, maka zat yang direduksi kation itu sendiri.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Anoda<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Seperti yang Quipperian tahu, bahwa anoda merupakan tempat terjadinya reaksi oksidasi. Zat yang teroksidasi bergantung pada jenis anoda dan jenis anion.
