Fokus penelitian Kirchhoff sebenarnya tidak hanya pada sistem kelistrikan saja, melainkan juga spektroskopi dan termodinamika. Ilmuwan lulusan Universitas Albertus Konigsberg ini berhasil merumuskan hukum rangkain listrik pada tahun 1845. Hingga saat ini, Hukum Kirchhoff banyak digunakan dalam rekayasa kelistrikan. Terdapat 2 Hukum Kirchhoff yang harus Quipperian ketahui, yaitu Hukum Kirchhoff I dan Hukum Kirchhoff II. Oleh karena itu hukum ini biasa disebut sebagai hukum percabangan (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kirchhoff\u2019s Current Law<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). Penurunan tegangan sama dengan nol berarti tidak ada energi listrik yang hilang dalam rangkaian tersebut. Dengan demikian, energi listrik bisa digunakan atau diserap seluruhnya. Adapun aturannya adalah sebagai berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tentukan loop untuk masing-masing rangkaian tertutup dengan arah tertentu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jika searah loop, penurunan tegangan (\u03a3<em>IR)<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">diberi tanda positif (+). Sebaliknya, jika berlawanan dengan arah loop penurunan tegangan (\u03a3<em>IR)\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">diberi tanda negatif (-).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saat Quipperian mengikuti arah loop yang telah ditentukan lalu menjumpai kutub positif sumber tegangan, maka gaya gerak listriknya (\u03a3<em>E)\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bertanda positif (+).
