Apa itu korosi?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Korosi adalah perubahan logam secara fisika maupun kimia akibat hilangnya fungsi mekanis logam tersebut. Elektrokimia adalah proses terjadinya reaksi redoks (reduksi oksidasi) secara spontan. Contohnya, korosi pada besi akan membentuk oksida besi (Fe<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">x<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">H<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O). Besi akan teroksidasi oleh oksigen dari udara dan akan membentuk korosi. Hal itu dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Air dan kelembapan udara<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Air dan kelembapan udara memegang peranan penting pada proses terjadinya korosi. Semakin tinggi kadar uap air di sekitar logam,\u00a0 semakin mudah logam mengalami korosi. Jika logam berada di daerah yang memiliki kadar air rendah, seperti di gurun, proses terjadinya korosi akan berjalan lebih lambat. Oleh karena itu, simpanlah besi-besi di rumahmu di tempat yang kering dan tidak lembap agar besi tidak mudah berkarat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Elektrolit<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jika mendengar istilah elektrolit, apa yang kamu pikirkan? Jangan-jangan, kamu kepikiran salah satu produk minuman, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 100%. Hehe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elektrolit merupakan tempat atau media yang menjadi tempat berlangsungnya transfer muatan. Hal itu mengakibatkan oksigen di udara lebih mudah mengikat elektron. Contohnya air hujan yang bersifat asam dan air laut yang bersifat asin mampu menjadi media pemercepat korosi. Tak heran jika besi-besi yang ada di lingkungan pabrik lebih cepat mengalami korosi karena terkena paparan senyawa asam.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>3. Permukaan logam yang tidak rata<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ternyata, bentuk permukaan logam juga berpengaruh pada kecepatan korosi. Logam yang permukaannya tidak rata akan mudah mengalami korosi. Hal itu diakibatkan oleh terbentuknya kutub-kutub muatan di permukaan logamnya. Kutub muatan tersebut ada yang berperan sebagai anoda dan katoda. Jika kamu memiliki logam di rumah, jangan lupa untuk selalu membersihkannya dan sesekali kondisikan agar logam bisa tetap licin. Dengan begitu, logam tidak akan mudah mengalami korosi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>4. Terbentuknya sel elektrokimia<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terbentuknya sel elektrokimia ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya dua permukaan logam yang saling bersinggungan. Jika permukaan logam yang bersinggungan memiliki perbedaan potensial elektroda, maka akan terbentuk sel elektrokimia. Saat terbentuk sel elektrokimia, logam dengan potensial elektron lebih rendah akan melepaskan elektron, sehingga terjadi oksidasi. Mengingat, banyak peralatan di sekitar rumah menggunakan besi atau logam, contohnya pintu gerbang. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, kamu tidak perlu khawatir, inilah cara mencegah agar besi atau logam tidak mudah korosi.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usahakan logam tidak mengalami kontak langsung dengan udara luar. Bagaimana caranya? Dengan membuat lingkungan di sekitar logam bebas oksigen, yaitu mengalirkan gas karbondioksida.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jika cara pada poin 1 terbilang susah, masih ada nih cara lain, yaitu dengan melakukan pengecatan. Melalui pengecatan, permukaan logam tidak akan bersinggungan langsung dengan udara luar yang mengandung oksigen dan uap air. Dengan demikian, logam tidak akan mudah mengalami korosi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menggunakan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elektroplating<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yaitu melapisi permukaan logam secara elektrokimia. Permukaan logam yang akan dilapisi berperan sebagai katoda, sedangkan pelapisnya&#8212;dalam hal ini logam lain&#8212;berperan sebagai anoda. Contoh elektroplating ini bisa kamu lihat di badan mobil. Sebenarnya, badan mobil itu terbuat dari besi atau baja. Pernahkah kamu lihat badan mobil berkarat? Tentu tidak ya. Hal itu karena badan mobil sudah dilapisi dengan logam lain, yaitu krom, sehingga terlihat lebih indah dan mengilap.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pengorbanan anoda atau perlindungan katoda, yaitu cara untuk mencegah korosi dengan cara mencegah terbentuknya sel elektrokimia. Perlindungan katoda atau pengorbanan anoda dilakukan dengan cara menyambungkan logam yang akan dilapisi dengan logam yang memiliki potensial elektroda lebih kecil. Logam dengan potensial elektroda lebih kecil berperan sebagai anoda yang nantinya akan mengalami reaksi oksidasi (logam yang akan terkorosi). Selama logam pelapis atau anodanya masih ada, logam yang dilapisi (katoda) tidak akan mengalami korosi. Itulah mengapa reaksi ini disebut pengorbanan anoda atau perlindungan katoda.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Membuat paduan (alloy) dengan cara mencampurkan besi dengan logam lain yang tahan korosi seperti nikel atau krom.
