Jika dibandingkan Ba, Be termasuk unsur yang kurang reaktif.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be merupakan unsur alkali tanah yang tidak bisa bereaksi dengan air. sementara itu, Mg bisa bereaksi namun lambat. Untuk Ca, Sr, dan Ba sangat mudah bereaksi dengan air layaknya unsur alkali.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Logam alkali tanah sangat mudah bereaksi dengan halogen (unsur golongan VII A), kecuali Be. Reaksi Be dengan halogen akan membentuk ikatan kovalen. Sementara itu, unsur alkali tanah lainnya&#8212;Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba&#8212;bereaksi dengan halogen membentuk ikatan ionik.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reaksi logam alkali tanah dengan oksigen akan membentuk senyawa oksida. Jika bereaksi dengan oksigen berlebih, Ba akan membentuk senyawa peroksida (BaO<\/span><sub><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/sub><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saat berada di udara, reaksi pembakaran magnesium dengan oksigen pada suhu akan menghasilkan magnesium nitrida.
