Berikut ini pembahasannya.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Pengertian Tanah Liat<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah liat adalah merupakan tanah yang mengandung mineral silikat yang berukuran mikro. Diameter partikel silikatnya lebih kecil dari 4 mikrometer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biasanya, tanah ini berwarna keabu-abuan dengan tekstur yang lengket saat basah dan umum dikenal sebagai tanah lempung. Beberapa tempat yang banyak mengandung tanah lempung, yaitu pinggiran sungai, danau, serta rawa.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salah satu kegunaan tanah liat adalah dijadikan bahan baku pembuatan keramik dan porselen.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Jenis-Jenis Tanah Liat<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah ini dibagi menjadi beberapa jenis, yaitu sebagai berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>1. Tanah <\/b><b><i>earthenware<\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah jenis ini umumnya digunakan oleh industri kerajinan untuk membuat gerabah, seperti kendi, gentong, maupun guci. Salah satu keunggulannya adalah memiliki beragam warna, mulai abu-abu, putih, cokelat, hingga merah.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earthenware<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> merupakan tanah liat yang berkualitas baik karena tingginya kandungan zat besi dan mineral lain di dalamnya.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>2. Tanah <\/b><b><i>kaolin clays<\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jika tanah sebelumnya banyak digunakan di industri kerajinan, maka tanah kaolin ini banyak digunakan di industri porselen. Umumnya, tanah kaolin berwarna terang dan tidak terlalu lemah (lentur), sehingga tanah ini lebih sulit untuk dibentuk.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>3. Tanah <\/b><b><i>ball clays<\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah ini memiliki kandungan mineral yang cukup sedikit. Akibatnya, tekstur tanahnya menjadi sangat lentur. Umumnya, tanah ball clays hanya digunakan sebagai campuran tanah kaolin untuk membuat porselen. Mengingat, tanah kaolin bertekstur agak keras.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Sifat-Sifat Tanah Liat<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah liat banyak dimanfaatkan oleh industri kerajinan gerabah. Hal itu tidak terlepas dari sifat tanah liat itu sendiri. Adapun sifat-sifatnya adalah sebagai berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>1. Bersifat liat dan lengket<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Menurut KBBI, liat berarti lemah (tidak kaku), tetapi tidak mudah putus. Hal ini pula yang melekat pada tanah lempung. Selain itu, tanah liat akan terasa lengket saat basah atau dikenai air.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebaliknya, tanah ini akan terasa keras atau kaku saat kering. Perpaduan sifat liat dan lengket itulah yang menjadikan tanah ini primadona di kalangan para pengrajin karena membuatnya mudah dibentuk sesuai keinginan.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>2. Sulit menyerap air<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanah liat bukan tipe tanah yang cocok digunakan untuk bercocok tanam karena sulit menyerap air. Hal itu bisa menyebabkan air terhalang untuk&nbsp; menembus pori-pori tanah. Namun demikian, tanah ini sangat cocok digunakan sebagai bahan baku genting dan alat penyimpanan air.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>3. Dalam kondisi kering, tanah bisa terurai menjadi butiran halus<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salah satu sifat unik dari tanah liat adalah mampu terurai menjadi butiran halus saat kering. Bahkan, butirannya bisa menyerupai debu. Saat berada pada kondisi basah, tanah ini dapat menyatu dengan baik seolah-olah butiran-butiran pembentuknya tidak bisa terlepaskan satu sama lain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>4. Bersifat plastis<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saat diamati menggunakan mikroskop, struktur partikel penyusun tanah liat berbentuk heksagonal. Reaksi yang terjadi antara tanah liat dan air, akan menyebabkan partikel-partikel tersebut mudah untuk menyatu sehingga tidak mudah retak.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hal inilah yang menyebabkan tanah liat bersifat plastis. Sifat plastis tersebut dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, yaitu tingkat kehalusan partikel tanah, bentuk partikel tanah, banyak sedikitnya air yang terkandung di dalamnya, susunan partikelnya, serta jenis tanahnya.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>5. Bisa menyusut dengan proses pembakaran<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pada industri kerajinan gerabah, produk yang sudah dibentuk akan melalui tahap pembakaran pada suhu 1.000 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C. Tahap ini bertujuan untuk menghilangkan semua kadar air yang ada di dalamnya.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Melalui proses pembakaran, partikel-partikel tanah liat menjadi semakin rapat, sehingga ukuran produknya akan menyusut. Semakin plastis tanah yang digunakan, semakin besar penyusutannya saat dibakar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>6. Porositas dipengaruhi oleh suhu pembakaran<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Porositas tanah liat akan terlihat saat tanah sudah dibakar atau dipanaskan. Semakin plastis tanah, semakin rendah porositasnya. Sebaliknya, semakin tidak plastis tanah, semakin tinggi porositasnya. Hal itu berkaitan dengan susunan partikel penyusunnya.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>7. Bersifat <\/b><b><i>slaking<\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slaking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> merupakan suatu kondisi di mana tanah liat bisa hancur menjadi butiran halus di dalam air. Hal itu terjadi jika tanah direndam di dalam air pada jangka waktu tertentu.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sesaat setelah direndam, tanah akan mengapung lalu hancur menjadi butiran-butiran kecil. Hancurnya tanah ini berkaitan dengan daya ikatnya. Jika daya ikatnya semakin kecil, tanah lempung semakin mudah untuk hancur.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berdasarkan sifat-sifat di atas, Quipperian sudah paham kan jika kerajinan gerabah hanya bisa dibuat dengan tanah liat?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Kegunaan Tanah Liat<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sifat tanah liat tentu berbeda dengan sifat tanah-tanah yang lain. Itulah sebabnya, tanah ini memiliki banyak kegunaan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Adapun kegunaannya adalah sebagai berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai bahan baku pembuatan keramik konvensional.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai bahan baku alat penyimpanan tradisional, seperti gentong dan kendi.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai bahan baku industri kerajinan gerabah, seperti piring, guci, vas bunga, dan lainnya.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai bahan baku kosmetik, terutama yang berkaitan dengan penyerapan minyak di wajah.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai bahan baku pembuatan obat kulit, seperti iritasi dan kemerahan.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebagai pemurni air, yaitu dengan mencampurkan tanah liat dan magnesium klorida.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Itulah pembahasan Quipper Blog kali ini.
