Misalnya, komplemen himpunan A beranggotakan semua anggota himpunan semesta yang tidak termasuk anggota himpunan A. Simbol komplemen himpunan ini biasa dinyatakan sebagai A<sup>C<\/sup>. Perhatikan contoh berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contoh 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S = {I, N, D, O, E, S, A}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A = (E, A, O, D}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Komplemen himpunan A (A<sup>C<\/sup>) = {I, N, S}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contoh 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A = {3, 4, 5}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A<sup>C<\/sup> = {1, 2, 6, 7}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sifat Komplemen Himpunan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adapun sifat-sifatnya adalah sebagai berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A \u222a A<sup>C<\/sup> = S<br>Secara matematis, bisa diraikan menjadi A \u222a A<sup>C<\/sup> = {<em>x<\/em>|(<em>x<\/em> \u2208 A) \u222a (<em>x<\/em> \u2208 S, <em>x<\/em> \u2209 A)}.<br><br>Dari persamaan di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa A merupakan anggota himpunan S. Sementara itu, A<sup>C<\/sup> bukan termasuk anggota himpunan A, namun masih anggota himpunan S. Oleh sebab itu, gabungan (union) dari himpunan A dan komplemennya merupakan himpunan semesta. Lantas, bagaimana jika A merupakan himpunan kosong? Jika A himpunan kosong, maka A<sup>C<\/sup> = S.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>S<sup>C<\/sup> = \u2205<br>Mungkin Quipperian bertanya-tanya, apa maksud sifat nomor 2 ini? Seperti Quipperian ketahui bahwa himpunan semesta (S) berisi seluruh anggota objek suatu himpunan. Artinya, komplemen himpunan semesta itu tidak ada karena tidak mungkin ada anggota himpunan di luar himpunan semesta. Perhatikan contoh berikut.<br><br>S = { A, B, C, D, E, F, G}<br><br>S<sup>C<\/sup> = \u2205<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A \u2229 A<sup>C<\/sup> = \u2205<br>Artinya, tidak ada anggota himpunan A yang menjadi bagian anggota komplemen himpunan A. Hal itu karena komplemen merupakan anggota semesta yang bukan anggota {A}. Perhatikan contoh berikut.<br>S = {a, b, d, i, n, u}<br>A = {d, i, a, n}<br>A<sup>C<\/sup> = {b, u}<br><br>Dari contoh di atas, terlihat bahwa tidak ada anggota himpunan A yang menjadi bagian komplemennya.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(A<sup>C<\/sup>)<sup>C<\/sup> = A<br>Jika anggota komplemen A bukan termasuk anggota {A}, maka komplemen dari komplemen himpunan A sudah pasti himpunan A itu sendiri. Perhatikan contoh berikut ini.<br>S = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14}<br>A = {4, 6, 12}<br>A<sup>C<\/sup> = {2, 8, 10, 14}<br><br>Dari contoh di atas, coba Quipperian tentukan hasil komplemen dari komplemen himpunan A! Artinya, kamu harus mencari anggota himpunan semesta yang bukan termasuk anggota komplemen himpunan A. Sudah pasti jawabannya himpunan A itu sendiri. Sampai sini, sudah paham kan?<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jika A termasuk himpunan bagian B (A \u2282&nbsp; B), maka berlaku B<sup>C<\/sup> \u2282 A<sup>C<\/sup>. Artinya, semua anggota komplemen himpunan B termasuk anggota komplemen himpunan A. Perhatikan contoh berikut.<br>S = { 1, a, 2, b, 3, c, 4, d}<br>B = {a, b, c, d}<br>A = {a, b}<br>B<sup>C<\/sup> = {1, 2, 3, 4}<br>A<sup>C<\/sup> = {1, 2, 3, c, 4, d}<br><br>Dari penjabaran di atas, terlihat bahwa setiap anggota komplemen himpunan B termasuk anggota komplemen himpunan A. Namun, tidak semua anggota komplemen A termasuk anggota komplemen B (A<sup>C<\/sup> \u2284&nbsp; B<sup>C<\/sup>).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B \u222a A<sup>C<\/sup> = S<br>Gabungan antara himpunan B dan komplemen A merupakan anggota himpunan semesta. Perhatikan contoh berikut.<br>S = {1, a, 2, b, 3, c, 4, d}<br>B = {a, b, c, d}<br>A = {a, b}<br>A<sup>C<\/sup> = {1, 2, 3, c, 4, d}<br><br>Dari penjabaran tersebut terlihat bahwa gabungan antara himpunan B dan komplemen menunjukkan himpunan semesta.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cara Menentukan Komplemen Himpunan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agar Quipperian semakin paham bagaimana cara menentukan komplemen himpunan? Perhatikan langkah berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tentukan himpunan semesta dan himpunan bagian yang diketahui.<br>Misalnya, kamu diminta untuk menentukan himpunan semesta dari bilangan asli yang kurang dari sebelas dan himpunan A, yaitu bilangan prima kurang dari 10.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuliskan semua anggota himpunannya.<br>Himpunan semesta dari bilangan asli yang kurang dari 11 bisa dinyatakan sebagai berikut.<br>S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10}<br>A = {2, 3, 5, 7}<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barulah Quipperian bisa menentukan komplemennya.<br>Ingat, komplemen merupakan anggota himpunan semesta yang bukan anggota himpunan A.
