Penyepuhan itu melibatkan proses elektrokimia yang disebut elektrolisis. Secara umum, elektrokimia dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu sel volta dan sel elektrolisis. Lantas, apa perbedaan antara sel volta dan sel elektrolisis? Yuk, simak selengkapnya!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pengertian Sel Volta dan Sel Elektrolisis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Di artikel sebelumnya, Quipper Blog sudah pernah membahas tentang pengertian sel volta dan sel elektrolisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sel volta ditemukan oleh seorang ilmuwan asal Italia, yaitu Alessandro Volta dan Luigi Galvani. Tak heran jika sel volta juga biasa disebut sel galvani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sel volta adalah jenis sel elektrokimia yang bisa mengubah energi kimia menjadi energi listrik, contohnya baterai. Sementara itu, sel elektrolisis adalah jenis sel elektrokimia yang bisa mengubah energi listrik menjadi energi kimia melalui penguraian senyawa elektrolit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">contoh proses penyepuhan emas. Sel ini ditemukan oleh seorang ilmuwan asal Inggris, yaitu Michael Faraday. Berkat penemuan inilah Faraday dikenal sebagai Bapak Listrik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perbedaan Sel Volta dan Sel Elektrolisis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secara pengertian sudah terlihat kan jika kedua sel elektrokimia ini sangat berbeda? Jenis Muatan Elektroda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dari gambar di atas terlihat bahwa jenis muatan elektroda sel volta berbeda dengan sel elektrolisis. Pada sel volta, anoda bermuatan negatif dan katoda bermuatan positif. Sementara itu, pada sel elektrolisis anoda bermuatan positif dan katoda bermuatan negatif. Hal itu karena elektroda anoda dihubungkan dengan kutub positif <em>power supply <\/em>dan elektroda katoda dihubungkan dengan kutub negatif <em>power supply<\/em>. Agar kamu mudah mengingatnya, perhatikan SUPER \u201cSolusi Quipper\u201d berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sel volta \u2192 KPAN (<strong>K<\/strong>atoda <strong>P<\/strong>ositif <strong>A<\/strong>noda <strong>N<\/strong>egatif)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sel elektrolisis \u2192 KNAP (<strong>K<\/strong>atoda <strong>N<\/strong>egatif <strong>A<\/strong>noda <strong>P<\/strong>ositif)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Jenis Reaksi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pada sel volta, reaksi bisa berjalan spontan tanpa adanya energi listrik dari luar, yakni murni melalui peristiwa reduksi oksidasi (redoks). Hal itu bisa dilihat dengan menyalanya lampu tanpa adanya <em>power supply<\/em> (pada gambar). Sementara itu, pada sel elektrolisis reaksi berjalan tidak spontan, sehingga butuh energi listrik dari luar untuk menggerakkan elektron di dalamnya. Sumber energi listrik ini diperoleh dari <em>power supply<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Ada Tidaknya Jembatan Garam<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pada rangkaian sel volta, terdapat jembatan garam (pada gambar ditunjukkan oleh garis putus-putus) yang berfungsi untuk menjaga muatan cairan elektrolit agar tetap netral. Jika cairan elektrolit netral, maka proses redoks bisa berjalan secara terus menerus hingga dihasilkan arus listrik. Sementara itu, pada sel elektrolisis tidak terdapat jembatan garam karena sumber energi listriknya berasal dari luar, yaitu <em>power supply<\/em>. Sumber arus listrik itulah  yang mengakibatkan pergerakan ion-ion di dalam cairan elektrolit. Ion-ion negatif akan bergerak mendekati anoda dan ion positif akan bergerak mendekati katoda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Potensial Sel Standar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sel volta memiliki potensial sel standar positif. Hal itu karena sel ini bisa berlangsung secara spontan. Potensial standar itu bisa kamu lihat di daftar deret volta, ya. Sementara itu, sel elektrolisis memiliki potensial sel standar negatif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Arah Aliran Elektron<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seperti Quipperian ketahui bahwa sel volta bisa berlangsung secara spontan melalui peristiwa redoks. Peristiwa ini memicu aliran elektron dari anoda yang bermuatan negatif menuju katoda yang bermuatan positif. Pada sel elektrolisis, elektron dihasilkan oleh sumber arus listrik (<em>power supply<\/em>) yang mengalir menuju katoda. Dari katoda, elektron mengalir melalui larutan elektrolit menuju ke anoda yang bermuatan positif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Perubahan Energi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perbedaan sel volta dan sel elektrolisis dari sisi perubahan energinya adalah sebagai berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pada sel volta, mula-mula terjadi reaksi kimia (reduksi oksidasi) yang menyebabkan aliran elektron dari anoda ke katoda. Selanjutnya, aliran elektron itu akan menghasilkan kuat arus listrik. Pada peristiwa ini, terjadi perubahan energi kimia menjadi energi listrik.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pada sel elektrolisis, mula-mula sel dialiri arus listrik yang mengakibatkan aliran elektron dari <em>power supply<\/em> menuju ke katoda, sehingga elektroda ini bermuatan negatif. Akibatnya, ion-ion positif dari cairan elektrolit akan bergerak mendekati katoda dan kemudian mengalami reduksi. Sementara itu, ion-ion negatif akan bergerak mendekati anoda dan kemudian mengalami oksidasi. Pada peristiwa ini, terjadi perubahan energi listrik menjadi kimia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Kegunaan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dari sisi kegunaan, kedua jenis sel elektrokimia ini jelas berbeda. Umumnya, sel volta digunakan sebagai sumber arus listrik dalam bentuk baterai pada perangkat elektronik, seperti radio, remote tv, mainan anak, dan sebagainya. Sementara itu, sel elektrolisis biasa digunakan untuk melapisi suatu logam agar terlihat lebih mengilap. Misalnya, proses penyepuhan pada emas yang telah pudar warnanya, memurnikan logam dari pengotornya, dan pembuatan beberapa jenis gas untuk skala industri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tahukah kamu jika rangkaian sel volta dan sel elektrolisis bisa ditemukan pada satu perangkat saja, <em>lho<\/em>?
