Konsep cepat rambat ini sama dengan kecepatan pada Kinematika Gerak Lurus. Hanya saja, pada cepat rambat ada besaran lain yang disebut panjang gelombang. Contoh gelombang transversal adalah gelombang pada tali yang digetarkan dan gelombang cahaya. Rapatan merupakan bagian gelombang yang memiliki tekanan molekul lebih tinggi dan ditandai dengan pir yang rapat. Sementara regangan merupakan bagian gelombang yang memiliki tekanan molekul lebih rendah dengan susunan pir yang meregang. Karena di luar angkasa hampa udara.
