Di dalam suatu penghantar, akan terjadi gerakan muatan-muatan listrik. Nah, gerak muatan listrik ini nantinya akan menghasilkan kuat arus listrik yang bisa kamu manfaatkan untuk mengecas hp, menghidupkan lampu, menyalakan AC, dan masih banyak lainnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lalu, apa yang dimaksud muatan listrik itu? Daripada penasaran, yuk simak selengkapnya!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pengertian Muatan Listrik<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Muatan listrik adalah muatan dasar yang terdapat di dalam suatu atom. Seperti kamu ketahui, di dalam atom terdapat dua partikel bermuatan atau muatan listrik, yaitu elektron dan proton.<\/strong> Interaksi antarmuatan itu akan menghasilkan suatu gaya yang disebut gaya elektrostatis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mekanisme interaksinya sama seperti interaksi magnet, yaitu jika muatan sejenis didekatkan akan terjadi gaya tolak menolak, jika muatan yang tidak sejenis didekatkan akan terjadi gaya tarik menarik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besarnya gaya tolak menolak atau gaya tarik menarik itu sebanding dengan hasil kali kedua muatan dan berbanding terbalik dengan kuadrat jaraknya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jenis-Jenis Muatan Listrik<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pada pembahasan di atas, sudah dijelaskan bahwa muatan listrik itu terdiri dari dua jenis, yaitu elektron dan proton. Lalu, apa perbedaan keduanya?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Elektron<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Elektron adalah muatan listrik negatif dengan nilai muatan sebesar 1,6 \u00d7 10<sup>-19<\/sup> C<\/strong>. Di dalam atom, elektron selalu berputar mengelilingi inti dengan lintasan dan energi tertentu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elektron ditemukan pada tahun 1897 oleh seorang ilmuwan asal Inggris, yaitu J.J. Thompson. Muatan listrik negatif ini diyakini sebagai partikel elementer karena tidak memiliki sub struktur atau komponen dasar lain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Proton<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proton adalah muatan listrik positif yang nilai muatannya sama dengan elektron. Gagasan awal proton ini ditemukan oleh Eugene Goldstein. Namun, karakteristik dan keberadaan jelas elektron ditemukan oleh ilmuwan asal Selandia Baru, yakni Ernest Rutherford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pada penelitiannya, Rutherford menyimpulkan bahwa proton terpusat di inti atom. Menurut Rutherford, jumlah proton di dalam inti atom sama dengan jumlah elektron yang mengitarinya. Adapun karakteristik proton adalah memiliki massa yang 1.800an kali lebih besar dari massa elektron dan rentan terhadap peristiwa peluruhan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selain dua muatan di atas, ada lagi partikel atomik yang tidak bermuatan, yaitu neutron. Neutron terletak di dalam inti atom bersama dengan proton. Partikel ini ditemukan oleh James Chadwick pada tahun 1932.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pada penelitiannya, Chadwick mengamati ada radiasi tak biasa Berilium saat ditembak partikel alfa. Struktur atom menyerupai sistem tata surya kita, yaitu di bagian tengah terdapat inti atom yang terdiri dari proton dan neutron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sementara di bagian luar inti terdapat elektron yang senantiasa berputar mengelilingi inti. Berdasarkan kondisi elektronnya, atom dibagi menjadi tiga, yaitu sebagai berikut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Atom Netral<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atom netral adalah atom yang memiliki muatan listrik positif (proton) sama dengan muatan listrik negatif (elektron). Contoh, Na (natrium), Cu (tembaga), Ca (kalsium), dan sebagainya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Atom Negatif<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atom negatif adalah atom yang memiliki jumlah elektron lebih banyak daripada proton. Lalu, bagaimana bisa jumlah elektronnya lebih banyak? Ada suatu kecenderungan pada atom tertentu untuk menangkap elektron dari atom lain saat terjadi ikatan kimia. Nah, elektron-elektron yang ditangkap itu mengakibatkan atom bermuatan negatif. Contoh atom Cl bisa menjadi Cl- karena menangkap satu elektron di kulit terluarnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Atom Positif<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atom positif adalah atom yang memiliki jumlah proton lebih banyak daripada elektron. Atom-atom tertentu memiliki kecenderungan untuk melepaskan elektron di kulit terluarnya. Akibatnya, jumlah proton menjadi lebih banyak dari elektron. Contoh, atom Mg menjadi Mg<sup>2+<\/sup> karena melepaskan 2 elektron di kulit terluarnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rumus Muatan Listrik<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saat suatu penghantar diberi tegangan atau beda potensial di kedua ujungnya, maka elektron atau muatan di dalamnya akan bergerak. Gerakan muatan listrik inilah yang disebut kuat arus listrik. Kuat arus listrik yang dihasilkan sebanding dengan nilai muatan listriknya tiap satuan waktu. Gaya Coulomb ini bisa berupa gaya tarik menarik atau gaya tolak menolak seperti yang telah dibahas sebelumnya.
